  • The weather turned to hot and dry conditions

National News:

  • Law and order was returning to California, trade was also on the rise.
  • In Christiana, PA, a group of African American and white abolitionists was involved in a riot with a group from Maryland who were in search of four fugitive slaves. One member of the Maryland group was killed and two were wounded. Thirty-seven African Americans and one white man were arrested.
  • The fifth tropical storm of the season was spotted off the coast of North Carolina.

International News:

  • Portugal was preparing to order the extinction of slavery in its dominions and put an end to the African slave trade.
