  • The Denny Party landed at Alki Point, the first settlers of the area that is modern day Seattle, Washington.
  • Herman Melville published Moby Dick on November 14, 1851
  • American Astronomer, Alvan Clark, patented the telescope.

International News:

  • The telegraphic convention was held in Austria to discuss telegraph connections in Europe.
  • The Dominican Republic and Haiti agreed to a one year truce so that each country could better focus on their crops.
